So, obviously, you all know he did make his arrival.
But he did not arrive quietly. I went into labor about 4 pm on Friday, January 26th. We headed to the hospital Saturday morning. While things seemed to be going smoothly, we ended up with a few too many complications. So to make a long story short (since I know most of you now know the details) and to spare myself of having to re-live the drama, let me just highlight with bullets some of the things that happened.
- No epidural allowed due to my Scoliosis surgery from 1992.
- During contractions when I was about 6 cm dilated, Jackson's heart rate started to drop a great deal, which caused the doctor some concern that perhaps the umbilical cord was wrapped around his neck. (It ended up being that his hands and feet were tangled up in it).
- Emergency C-section
- Due to no epidural, I had to be put to sleep under general anesthesia.
- After C-section, doctor became concerned with some abnormal bleeding.
- Another emergency C-section, to correct the problem, again, put to sleep under general anesthesia (all within the course of about 2 hours).
- Jackson was taken to the NICU where he was closely monitored due to some respiratory issues and to receive antibiotics through an IV.
- While recovering the doctor became concerned with my elevated "resting" heart rate, which was about 150.
- After some anxiety medication, a blood transfusion, and a CT Scan, it was discovered that I had 2 Cardio-Pulminary Embolisms!!!!!!
- Immediately transferred to the Heart Hospital, where I remained for 8 days!
- During that time, I was put on blood thinners, almost had a heart attack, had a procedure done to put a filter in my body to catch any other blood clots that might make their way to my lungs, was ordered to have another CT Scan which told us that I had another clot in my ovarian vein, and only saw my newborn baby for maybe a total of about 24 hours during the 192 hours I was at the hospital.
Can you even believe it? How is that for a story of the birth of one's child? Ever heard anything like it? Me neither.
So..........
3 weeks after being released from the hospital, things are finally returning to normal. Mama and baby are doing well. I have to continue on blood thinners for 6 months and then I should be free and clear! Right now I am just trying to get myself back into shape. Being stuck in a hospital bed for a week (plus having 2 surgeries, and a baby) has really set me back. But we promise...nothing but sunshine and lollipops from now on!!!
I want to thank everyone for their prayers, well wishes, and positive thoughts during this whole mess that gave us one of life's greatest blessings! We love you all!
Get ready to see LOTS of pictures of Jackson within the next coming days, weeks, and months!
